When it comes to answering the question on how many characters make a page of SMS, there is no definite number, but rather it depends on the number of pages of the SMS you are sending. Let us quickly explain what we mean with each SMS type.
Plain Text Message
This is ofcourse the regular SMS you send that delivers inbox on the recipient’s phone. For this type of message, 1 page of SMS has a maximum of 160 characters. However, once you exceed a page of message, the character length per page changes. When there are 2 or more pages, each page would take a maximum of 153 characters. That means for example, 2 pages of SMS would be 306 characters, 3 pages of SMS would be 459 characters, 4 pages would be 612, and so on.
Flash SMS
Flash SMS is that type of SMS that simply appears on the recipient’s phone when it comes in without them having to check the inbox. You can learn more about it here. The characters of pages work the same way as the plain text message. 1 page of SMS has a maximum of 160 characters. However, once you exceed a page of message, the character length per page changes. When there are 2 or more pages, each page would take a maximum of 153 characters. That means for example, 2 pages of SMS would be 306 characters, 3 pages of SMS would be 459 characters, 4 pages would be 612, and so on.
Unicode SMS
Unicode SMS are messages containing characters not included in the default GSM character set. The number of characters making a page of unicode SMS differs from the other two above. 1 page of unicode SMS contains 70 characters. However, when you exceed a page of message, the number of characters per page changes to 61 characters. 2 pages of unicode SMS would therefore be 122 characters, 3 pages of unicode SMS would be 183 characters, 4 pages would be 244 characters e.t.c.
We hope that this information would direct you when sending SMS, be it plain text message, flash SMS or unicode, so as to monitor your page limit accordingly.
