How NYSC Camps OBS can use Bulk SMS for Emergencies

  10 May 2016

The Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS) on every NYSC Orientation camp is the chief source of dissemination of information on camp. The functions of the OBS are enormous, ranging from passing out firsthand updates from camp officials, announcing platoon meetings, and even entertaining the youth Corp members with music and other fun programs. In short, they make the stay on camp anything but boring.

In order to effectively carry out these duties, the OBS is set up at a strategic area on camp, with the station connected to loud speakers positioned in a location where a sizeable number of those on camp can hear whatever is being broadcasted via it. So, as important information is passed across, those in close proximity to this will get these.

There might be times though when emergency circumstances might arise, and every Corp members have to be communicated with to take urgent actions. The most reliable channel to ensure everyone gets this information immediately is the OBS. However, there is a challenge in many camps where the broadcast cannot cover every part of the camp, making it impossible for some youth Corp members not close to the speakers to hear the announcement. To solve this, an additional, simple yet also effective communication system is necessary.

Bulk SMS is a proven efficient communication channel for cases of emergencies. It’s really fast and everyone gets it at the same time as it goes straight into their cell phones. The OBS can really make do with that. Register a free bulk SMS account if you’ve not done so already. And watch it come in handy during emergencies.

Free bulk SMS units are available after registration.
