You’re probably aware by now that there is a mandatory requirement to register all Sender IDs used for bulk SMS. This directive is from the NCC, and it was given a long time ago.
Have you registered your Sender ID yet? Do you see this as challenging and sometimes wonder why that directive was given? Well, here are some of the reasons why it is not only necessary but also important and beneficial that you adhere to this directive as soon as possible.
Registration of Sender ID used for bulk SMS is beneficial for the following reasons:
- It reduces the risk of scam messages, as every Sender can be properly identified
- It removes the incidence of unsolicited messages (spam), which is a constant nuisance to SMS users
- It also helps the operators fish out criminal elements who use SMS to send threats and pose dangers
- Finally, it ensures you are able to get your SMS delivered with your choice unique sender ID
Failure to comply with the requirement to register your Sender ID would mean that you cannot send SMS and get them delivered with that Sender ID. At the moment, you can only deliver SMS with a default ID allowed by the network operators.
Even at that, there is no guarantee that the default Sender ID can be used for a long period of time. Experience has shown that the default ID can be blocked after some time when there is a lot of traffic on it.
In line with that, we encourage you to submit your Sender ID for registration right away. This takes only 3-5 working days to get approval. After which you can start to enjoy the delivery of SMS to all phone numbers with your desired unique ID.
You can also take a moment to check out the guidelines that should be adhered to in order to ensure successful approval of submitted Sender IDs for registration.
