“I Want to Send a Message But It’s Showing 'Credit Exhausted Units'”

  17 June 2015

Credit exhausted units, as the phrase sounds, simply means you do not have sufficient balance in your bulk SMS account to send the message you want to send. In some cases though, you might have SMS units in your account which you feel should send you your messages but still gets this response. Here is the reason why that might occur.

If you want to send a bulk SMS and gets the response: “Credit Exhausted Units” while you have SMS units in your account, the reasons for such response are.

The Unit(s) is not sufficient for the number of pages the message is: At SmartSMSSolutions, a page of message costs 1 SMS unit to one phone number. When the message exceeds a page, an additional unit to a phone number is charged for each successive page. That means for example, suppose you have 50 SMS units in your account and want to send a message to 50 recipients. Provided the message is a page, that number of units will send the message to all the recipients at 1 unit per SMS to a number. Nevertheless, if the message exceeds a page, then 100 units will be needed to get the SMS across to all the recipients, at 2 units per SMS to a number. Therefore, if you want to send such message to all at the same time, you will get the response “credit exhausted units” because your current balance cannot send that message to all those numbers.

The Unit(s) is not sufficient for the number of recipients of the message: In some cases, the number of recipients you are trying to send the message to might be more than what your current balance can cover. Using the example above, 50 SMS units would send a page of message to 50 numbers as noted. But supposing the number of recipients is more than 50, the units then will be insufficient to send the message to all even though the message is a page.

When you have bulk SMS units in your account but still get this response, following the reasons given above, you could either reduce the length of the message to keep it at a page, with one of the ways to do this been through the use of acronyms in your bulk messages. You could also reduce the number of recipients for the message.

Better yet, if you must send the bulk SMS to all the recipients at the same time, then you can make a purchase of SMS units either through direct bank deposit, bank transfer or through online payment using QuickTeller.
